A New Small New Open Source Gift for 2026

A New Small New Open Source Gift for 2026

Intro

Hi everyone,

I just noticed that I'm not sharing anything new for a long time.I'm happy that I'm still remember the admin password of this blog 😀 .

Let me explain the story of this small tool first. I was just curious about my ancestry. When I downloaded the raw data file, I started digging in and thought, "There’s so much more here than just where my family came from."

Most companies lock deeper insights behind paywalls—things like

  • health predispositions
  • how your body handles caffeine
  • sleep tendencies
  • even some personality traits

and they usually charge an extra $20–30 for those reports.

That didn’t sit right with me. I care a lot about privacy, especially with DNA data, which feels like the most personal information we have. So I built a simple tool that lets you explore all of this yourself, for free, without ever sending your data anywhere.

It runs completely in your browser.

What it does

  • Instant insights: See easy-to-read results for dozens of traits: diabetes risk, caffeine metabolism, sleep patterns, emotional tendencies, and many more.
  • Local processing: Nothing leaves your device—everything processes locally.

Why I made it

I wanted something I could trust completely. No servers, no tracking, no hidden fees. It's fully open-source so anyone can check the code, improve it, or run it offline.

How to use it

  1. Download your raw DNA file from your testing provider.
  2. Visit https://erenkucuker.github.io/easy-dna-extractor/ (or clone it from GitHub and run locally).
  3. Upload the file and take a look around.

If you try it,

I’d genuinely love to hear what you think feedback, suggestions, or just your experience. Stars on GitHub are always appreciated too. 🙌
